Artist’s Statement

For me, it’s all about the paint - the process - focusing on color and shapes. I am drawn
to the patterns and colors found in nature. Often, a small fragment becomes my subject:
leaves, coral, a fallen tree.

I love to start with a complicated subject and work out a composition and complex of colors to create a unique image. I have a quote by Pierre Bonnard taped to my easel, “The object is not to paint life. The object is to make a painting come alive.” That is the challenge.
